Our Story
Amplify Youth Development teaches health and character education throughout DuPage County, IL. Amplify seeks to help teens achieve healthy, successful futures by teaching them how to make good choices, particularly regarding abstinence and sexual health.
In 2000, schools in DuPage County began asking CareNet Pregnancy Services of DuPage if they could provide speakers to talk about the risks of premarital sexual activity and the challenges of being a teen parent. CareNet began to provide testimonial speakers along with two days of education about the emotional and physical risks of sexual activity. The program was called “Love with Liberty for Life.”
As the program grew, it was renamed Wait 4 Your Mate. Wait 4 Your Mate expanded the abstinence education curriculum to be more effective and adapted it for multiple grade levels. In 2004, Wait 4 Your Mate was awarded a SPRANS grant for abstinence education and grew its staff and the scope of the program. Services now included up to five days of curriculum as well as parent workshops.
In 2007, Wait 4 Your Mate was awarded a Community Based Abstinence Education grant. At the same time, the program curriculum became more holistic in addressing all of the mediating factors of teen decision making. The program was renamed once again to better describe the scope of its services: Amplify Youth Development was born.
The name “Amplify” describes the way a single change in a student’s life can have a ripple effect far into the future, for that student and for every life that student touches. Amplify believes that any student can choose a healthier, more successful future when they are well-informed, well-equipped and well-inspired.
